The tragedy produced last week in Haiti mobilized many celebrities and authorities but also the big names of the auto industry. The automakers did not stay too far ahead and jumped in to help either with money or equipment.

The American Honda division has managed to donate $300,000 and contribute with precious equipment to improve the situation. To date, however, Toyota has proved to be the most generous automaker, donating about $500,000 in the accounts of  the Red Cross, Save the Children and Doctors without Borders organizations, responsible for helping the Haitians affected by the earthquake.

Along with Toyota and Honda there were also the other leading automakers. Hyundai has donated $100,000 to the International Committee of the Red Cross, while Nissan has raised, for this noble cause, $50,000 from their employees, $30,000 from the North American and Canadian divisions and has promised another $100,000 if the situation will stabilize and reconstruction begin.

General Motors, the other conglomerate of Detroit found in the soup, donated $100,000 and built a mini-site where their workers can donate money. Ford has promised some money in his and his workers name and professional help in identifying the problems in Port au Prince.

The list of automobile manufacturers was closed by a supplier, named Eaton, who donated $100,000 to the American Red Cross.
